“Effigy: One Hundred Figures and the Buddha”
Location: Gallery 78 – Google Map
Date: August 13th to September 5th, 2010
Beginning Friday, August 13th, visit Gallery 78 to view “Effigy: One Hundred Figures and the Buddha” – Woodfired Ceramic Sculpture by Lee Horus Clark & Yolande Clark. These New Brunswick ceramic artists are engaged in an extremely challenging, intense and beautiful art-form: they create ceramic vessels and sculptures in fine porcelain and stoneware, and then subject them to a fiery inferno, stoking their massive medieval-style Anagama kiln every 2-5 minutes, 24 hours a day, for approximately 10 days. Come view the fascinating results. “Effigy: One Hundred Figures and the Buddha” will be exhibited from August 13th to September 5th, with an artist talk and film on Sunday, August 15th at 2pm.
“Masquerade” – Mask-inspired sculpture by New Brunswick’s Werner Arnold
Dates: Opening September 10th, 2010
Location: Gallery 78 – Google Map
An adventurous spirit brought Werner Arnold to Canada from Switzerland in the 1960s. Settling in Toronto, he studied graphic art and interior design, discovering a passion for woodworking. He quickly developed his own unique and highly imaginative style, incorporating appliqués and the use of elaborate washes of brilliant colour. This style has become immediately recognisable in his fantastic, intricately carved creations. Arnold’s latest exhibition “Masquerade” integrates this style with the age-old tradition of mask-making. Arnold’s sense of fun is evident and combines with elements of intrigue and mystery. Faces behind faces provide alluring interactive opportunities. As always, the works are highly colourful, extremely fun, inspiring, and incredibly imaginative.
Arnold’s work has been exhibited across North America and in Europe and is included in private and corporate collections around the world. “Masquerade” opens at Gallery 78 on September 10th, 2010. To view works by Werner Arnold, visit www.gallery78.com/arnoldw.htm
