Wolf Parade

Details: Montreal indie-rock band Wolf Parade will make their Fredericton debut in support of their latest release At Mount Zoomer (Sub Pop) at The Market on Sunday, April 4 at 9 p.m.

Comprised of singer-guitarist Dan Boeckner, keyboardist Hadji Baraka, singer-keyboardist Spencer Krug, drummer Arlen Thompson and guitarist Dante DeCaro, Wolf Parade formed in 2003. Their critically-acclaimed debut full-length album Apologies to the Queen Mary (Sub Pop, 2005) was produced by Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock. It also garnered them a 2006 Polaris Prize nomination as well as comparisons to both Brock’s band and Arcade Fire.

Released in 2008, Wolf Parade’s sophomore Sub Pop release At Mount Zoomer is nine sprawling tracks recorded in a Montreal church owned by Arcade Fire. Thompson recorded and engineered the entire album.

Tickets: Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 day of show (including tax) and go on sale this Thursday, January 28 at 10 a.m. Tickets will be available at Backstreet Records (384 Queen Street), all Ticketpro outlets, by phone at 1-888-311-9090 and online at www.sonicconcerts.com. Men of the Deeps

Details: Since 1966, Men of the Deeps have been performing for audiences in Canada and the United States as North America’s only coal miner’s choir. All of the men in the choir are either working or retired coal miners from the island of Cape Breton. The group has traveled far and wide, and they were the first Canadian performing group to tour the People’s Republic of China in 1976. Today Men of the Deeps are more than just a choir, they are a social institution. Clad in overalls and hard hats, this choir makes an impressive impact with every appearance, striking a familiar chord of Canadian pride in everyone who sees and hears them.

The Spinney Brothers & J. P. Cormier

Details: The Spinney Brothers are the most awarded act in Maritime acoustic and bluegrass music history. Brothers Allan & Rick were raised in Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley and have taken their music all across North America. The Nova Scotia Legislature has recognized them as “Ambassadors of Nova Scotia”.

The Spinney Brothers have garnished an industry reputation of being top notch professionals. Attention to detail has brought an impression list of performance opportunities. They have shared the stage with county music star Ricky Skaggs, the Grammy nominated Cherryholms, and Grand Ole Opry legend Del McCoury.

JP Cormier: Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, sideman, innovator, recording artist, award winner. His names are many, but underlying that is a young man with an ancient soul who has traveled the world for the past 25 years bringing his unique brand of joy to audiences wherever he goes.

Cormier has released thirteen award winning recordings. J.P.’s impressive body of work has earned him a vast and loyal fan base, and multiple award nominations and wins, including, 12 East Coast Music Awards, Canadian Folk Music Award, 5 Music Nova Scotia Awards, Juno nomination, Commendations from the Governor General of Canada and Premier of Nova Scotia.
